Be in no doubt, times are tough for your average independent business owner. The country is gripped by fear and the economy has ground to a halt. Many business owners have had to shut their bricks and mortar doors for an unknown period of time.
But what happens if your business is functioning (even in a limited capacity). What if you are determined to use this time to relaunch your business with a bang when things start to normalise and consumers are out and about again?
How do you take action TODAY (without spending a fortune). Can you increase your online presence and get exposure for your business?
Gaining knowledge as you go!
Many years ago I owned a baby business. I started with a small market stall after the birth of my son and ended up with a shop and online store in my local town.
I use the knowledge I gained during that period to help others grow their business. To increase traffic to their website and boost their sales. I use a variety of online tools to do it.
But will those tools work for my business?
It doesn’t really matter what kind of business you are.. you could be a boutique with a beautiful little gem of a shop that’s got racks full of stock that are gathering dust.
Maybe you’re an artist that paints pictures in his garden shed and usually sells them to local art galleries, that are now shut.
You could be an events organiser that has found the cancellation of weddings and birthdays have completely decimated the business you worked so painstakingly to build the reputation of..
Every kind of business owner can use this time wisely – to strengthen their business or diversify in order to survive.
What do I need to do?
Every entrepreneur that I have ever met has a skill or specialist knowledge in something – every single one of them has a story to tell and a message to share.
By exploring fresh ways of telling your story and expanding your reach you can begin to find new ways to promote your existing business or to change the model to something more robust and flexible during this period of transformation and change…
One example of this is for a nail technician – you may have had to shut your doors right now but there are lots of things you can do to continue to build a customer base and maybe even continue to produce revenue during this period of chaos!
Things to try
- Create a step by step guide showing people how to take care of the health of their nails and keep them looking fab from home.
- Use the time to learn the skills you need to develop a membership base with rewards for loyalties and repeat custom when you return to work
- Grow a thriving youtube channel showing your challenges and showcasing your skills and use this as an advertising platform and a basis for producing affiliate income or sales
- Produce a free video course showing people how to produce great nail art and you could then sell some of the products you use in the video either via an online store (EKM powershop is cheap and easy to use) or via an affiliate program.
- Depending on your level of skill within your profession you could produce an information product that teaches people a specific skill that they would be prepared to pay money for.
There are so many ways that independent and small business owners can develop and change their trading model to adapt to the changes in the wider business landscape.
Small businesses have a great advantage
One advantage of being a small business is the ability to rapidly adapt and flex. To meet demands and overcome challenges that larger entities just cannot achieve due to their size, culture and bureaucracy.
Be in no doubt. Many businesses will fail over the next few months, through no fault of their own. It’s likely that those who use this time wisely to plan, flex, adapt and change. Will be the ones that grow and thrive.
Think outside the box.. be bold… be brave and explore every option .. one thing that I would specifically recommend that you check out is the One Funnel Away Challenge by Clickfunnels.. it is one of the most valuable courses I have taken for taking a product or promotion from concept to creation (in marketing terms) and launching it in a profitable way.
You just never know which idea could give birth to a stronger, brighter and more profitable version of your business.
I have been very fortunate to build an online income over the past few years, if this is something you’d like to do too you can see here exactly how I make money from this blog.
