Affiliate marketing, as a concept, has been around since 1989 when William J. Tobin, the founder of PC Flowers & Gifts. launched his first program on the Prodigy Network.
People wondered at the time is affiliate marketing really profitable and possible? Looking at questions I get through social media and email today and they are still asking the same questions.
The answer today is the same as the answer then. A resounding YES. But you do have to put in work and effort to achieve results that will impact your life.
As with any industry when the economy takes a dive the marketing budget is the first to get cut.
We saw this play out when the dot com bubble burst. The same thing happened in 2008 when the financial crisis caused global chaos. Through it all affiliate marketing has survived and even prospered.
The internet and e-commerce continues to grow and thrive and as a company or brand looks to increase it’s sales through it’s internet presence, so the affiliate marketing opportunity around it grows.
When we look at the big online players, virtually every one has an affiliate program attached and as the way we live and shop changes other businesses are joining the online party too.
So, going back to my original question..yes, affiliate marketing it’s still a profitable method of generating an income online.
It isn’t for everybody and some will have no success but if you are prepared to put in some effort, add value and solve problems then you will slowly see you affiliate earning start to grow.
I have been very fortunate to build an online income over the past few years, if this is something you’d like to do too you can see here exactly how I make money from this blog.
