The big questions in life…What do you want to do with your life? What do you want to be when you grow up?
When you are young and free and have no responsibilities these questions are easy. You have an in-built natural belief that you can be or do anything.
Then you get a bit older and life gets more complicated.
Maybe you get a mortgage, a loan and car repayments. Maybe you get a reasonably good job and feel the pressure to keep it and progress. Reality sets in, daydreaming takes a back seat and life becomes just that little bit more dreary!
Now don’t get me wrong I have a pretty cool job, I am a project manager helping some of the brightest engineers develop some amazing gadgets and gizmos but still..
I am a dreamer and that just wasn’t how my life was supposed to be!
My day to day reality still has that element of the 9 to 5 drudge about it, I get up every day and go to work, I am a contractor so I do have some control over my schedule.
I can take holidays when I like but if I’m sick or need a day off I don’t get paid.
I am one of those people in life that is…almost…completely happy.. but I know what I am doing right now is not life’s purpose…
It was time to do something. It was time to ask myself what do you want to be when you grow up?
I decided to trial an experiment. Something different, something that would challenge me..
I knew my family wouldn’t really understand what I was doing, they would probably think I had lost my mind.
So I kept it quiet, did some research and testing and tried to find out what really excited me. As well as what I was good at.
I think this is probably the most trying part of deciding exactly who and what you want to be. Most people really do not know themselves. They don’t know what they love or what they really want to do with their time and energy.
All they have is the stuff inside them that has been formed and molded by other peoples expectations as they grow up.
Once you decide to ditch being a people pleaser you have to work really hard on yourself to strip it all back and find out what it really is that makes you, YOU!
Successes and failures
Over the past couple of years I have tried LOTS of different things to find what I really enjoy and what really makes me tick.
Some things have been a rip roaring success and sometimes I have fallen flat on my face but every single thing I have tried has given me a valuable lesson about who I am and what I need to be doing.
Every win has shown me my strengths and every loss has shown me the things I need to avoid or the weaknesses I need to improve on.
I found that I had a passion for business and a passion for people. Those 2 things quite naturally led me to internet marketing.
I’ve seen just about every type of opportunity out there. I’ve seen the ponzi and crypto scams, the health and wellness products, the information products and ebooks.
It’s been one heck of a journey so far but I have managed to find things that are real, substantial and speak to me!
So there you have it..this is where I am right now! I’ve been down many paths and hit dead ends. I’ve beaten myself up for getting it wrong and danced like a lunatic when I’ve made big progress.
What have I learned from it all?
Well I have learned that NONE of it is wrong..these ARE NOT mistakes.
They are tests and experiments and eventually they lead you to the path where you want and need to be.
If they lead you to your purpose, if they lead you to your bliss, then they ultimately lead you to your online success.
Life is just one big adventure after all 🙂
I have been very fortunate to build an online income over the past few years, if this is something you’d like to do too you can see here exactly how I make money from this blog.
